WV department of health has been forced to suspend all online appointments after hackers compromised its database.
“This is not a coincidence,” WV Secretary of State Mike Ehrman said in a statement.
“The hackers have broken into our servers to steal sensitive data and now have access to our computer systems.
We are working to secure our systems and secure our patients.”
According to Ehrm, the department is working with state and federal law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute the hackers.
He added that the department’s website was not compromised and no data was taken.
The website has a large amount of information and has been accessible since November 9.
It has a user guide which includes directions to help you manage your health care, including a list of hospitals and clinics.
The department said it is working to help protect patients’ data by notifying them of the possible breach.
